About the Event

A resident of Granville Ferry Nova Scotia, Syd Read has been a professional musician for over 5 decades. Holding an Honours degree in music he has explored many musical paths and genres...as an educator, drum circle facilitator, conductor, university teacher, percussionist and Celtic singer / songwriter. He has toured with Rant Maggie Rant and was a founding member of The Steel City Rovers.

Following his ancestral roots, Syd specializes in exploring the rich tradition of Scottish instrumental, (including the great highland bagpipes), and vocal music from the 17th century to the present. He composes Scottish influenced songs, as well as original songs inspired by the rich history of the Annapolis Valley and daily life living in Nova Scotia.

As a singer / songwriter he performs on mandolin, octave mandolin, keyboards, African djembe and celtic bodhran.
